The BMW 320d is one of the most popular cars to remap in the UK — and for good reason. The B47 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine responds brilliantly to ECU tuning, with real-world Stage 1 gains of 55bhp and 80Nm from a car that already drives well in standard form. Which Versions of the 320d Can Be Remapped?

The BMW 320d has used several engine generations. All respond well to remapping:

The B47 is the most common version we remap today and gives the best results. The G20 3 Series with the B47 has slightly more headroom than the F30 due to updated fuel injection hardware.

What Does the BMW 320d Remap Actually Feel Like?

In standard form the 320d is a refined, efficient cruiser. After a Stage 1 remap it becomes something else entirely. The most notable change is the torque delivery from low revs — where the standard car feels slightly hesitant below 1,800rpm, the remapped version pulls cleanly from 1,400rpm upward with a much more linear power delivery all the way to the redline.

On motorways and dual carriageways — the A13, M25, A2 — the difference is particularly striking. Overtakes that previously required a kickdown and a gear change now happen effortlessly in the current gear. Many drivers also report improved fuel economy on longer runs, as the increased torque allows them to drive at lower throttle openings in higher gears.

Will the 320d Remap Void BMW Warranty?

If your BMW 320d is still under BMW's new car warranty, a remap will likely void the powertrain elements if BMW can detect it — and modern BMWs do log ECU writes. For vehicles out of manufacturer warranty, this is not a concern. Ben can advise on the specific implications for your registration.
